Rybelsus® (oral semaglutide) is an effective prescription treatment for blood sugar control and weight management. Like all medications, it can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Understanding the possible reactions helps ensure safe and successful treatment.
⚠️ Serious Side Effects
Common (up to 1 in 10 people)
Diabetic eye disease complications (retinopathy)
If you notice visual changes or any eye problems while taking Rybelsus, inform your Slim Clinic doctor promptly.
Rare (up to 1 in 1,000 people)
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
Seek emergency medical help if you experience:
Difficulty breathing
Swelling of the face, lips, or throat
Wheezing
Rapid heartbeat
Pale, clammy skin
Dizziness or extreme weakness
Acute pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas)
Symptoms may include:
Persistent, severe stomach pain (upper abdomen)
Pain radiating to the back
Nausea or vomiting
Stop Rybelsus immediately and seek urgent medical care if these occur.
Other Side Effects
Very Common (more than 1 in 10 people)
Nausea – usually improves as your body adjusts
Diarrhoea – generally temporary
Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) when used with insulin or sulfonylureas
Recognising low blood sugar
Symptoms may include:
Cold sweats, pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea or strong hunger, blurry vision, tiredness, shaking, anxiety, nervousness, or difficulty concentrating.
Your Slim Clinic clinician may adjust your diabetes medication to reduce this risk.
Common (up to 1 in 10 people)
Vomiting
Low blood sugar when combined with certain diabetes medications
Upset stomach / digestive discomfort
Gastritis (stomach pain, nausea, vomiting)
Heartburn / acid reflux (GERD)
Stomach ache
Bloating
Constipation
Fatigue
Reduced appetite
Gas (flatulence)
Increased pancreatic enzymes (lipase, amylase) on blood tests
Occasional (up to 1 in 100 people)
Weight loss
Gallstones
Belching
Faster pulse
